PBS and Accelerated Reader
Positive Behavior System
School-wide Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) is a research-based approach to creating and sustaining positive and effective social emotional learning environments. PBS promotes academic excellence for all students by setting, teaching and reinforcing clear behavior expectations. It includes strategies for preventing problem behavior by changing routines and by teaching new social and communication skills. As a result, schools are safer and teachers spend less time disciplining students and more time teaching.
Accelerated Reader (AR)
A love of reading changes everything...
At its heart, AR is simple. Students read a book, take an AR Quiz, and get immediate feedback. Kids get excited and motivated when they see their progress. And teachers can easily monitor and manage students' independent reading practice.
At Whitman, our monthly assemblies, AR parties and AR store help motivate students to grow and develop as readers.
